OPO's

College campuses are ideal resources for your public education efforts.  Undergraduate students, as a group, are a passionate, motivated volunteers.  They are curious, creative and they stand strongly behind their beliefs.  There are thousands of students around the country ready to take leadership roles and fight for a cause as important as saving lives.  All they need is a little bit of guidance and organization.  At Greatest Gift, Inc. we can help you provide that.  We can also provide advice for the best student groups to contact and how to reach them, events that work best on college campuses, training for the students, educational materials and much more.  If you are looking to reach out to your local college campuses, take our model and use it.  There is really no reason not to.  It's free and it's easy.

Medical students are the future transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists and intensivists that your organization will be working very closely with.  As physicians and future physicians ourselves, we can tell you that donation education has been underrepresented in medical school.  Medical students typically have more reluctance to the time commitment of new leadership roles but we can provide you with different creative ideas to get your message out to these students.  Our medical student model has a special focus on the different roles of the M.D. in the donation process and the future opportunities for them in donation-related fields.  Take a look at our OPO start-up guide attached below for more information on how to help us educate these future educators.

The fact that undergraduate and medical campuses are our primary focus at this time does not rule out the possibility of a chapter on a nursing, public health or any other graduate school campus.  If you have an idea for a new frontier for our program just let us know and we'll help you reshape our model to make it work.

We are aware that many OPOs and public education groups have already started campaigns to bring donation education to their local campuses.  We are not trying to step on any toes.  We are willing to help in any way we can and I hope that other groups would be willing to help us improve as well.  Feel free to contact us to brainstorm and compare notes.

Below you will find a checklist for starting Greatest Gift Campus Chapters on your local campuses as well as a sample e-mail to help you reach out to potential student leaders.
